Sony Xperia 1 VII: Sony appears to be more than ready to give its Xperia line a full makeover, and the Xperia 1 VII has already started surfacing online. Photos of the new phone were reportedly discovered on the Taiwanese National Communications Commission (NCC) website, where it was leaked to reveal its design and color. Xperia 1 VII has been said to be assigned to the model number XQ-FSxx and boasts the same slender build as its predecessor, the Xperia 1 VI.

Minor design adjustments with new colour schemes
As per leaked photos viewed by Japanese site Sumaho Digest, Sony Xperia 1 VII will feature navy green, purple, and black colors. This is a slight deviation from the Xperia 1 VI, which featured black, platinum silver, and khaki green. Sony remains minimalist and clean-looking in design, adhering to its vertical camera placement and general industrial look.
Triple Rear Cameras and Headphone Jack Remain
Xperia 1 VII maintains Sony’s proven triple rear camera setup. In the leaked images, sensors are stacked vertically, with a main camera prominently taking the top spot, which allegedly houses an Exmor-T sensor. Die-hards will be pleased to know that the headphone jack a throwback to the good old days of high-end smartphones, is still intact, sticking to Sony’s audio quality tradition.
Minor Height Adjustment from Previous Model
According to NCC listing, the Xperia 1 VII will be around 165mm tall and 74mm wide. That is, it is just a bit taller than the 162mm Xperia 1 VI but the same in overall width, so Sony is making small ergonomic tweaks while maintaining the thin form factor its fans adore.
Expected to feature Snapdragon 8 Elite Chipset
Recent leaks indicate that the Xperia 1 VII could be Sony’s first smartphone powered by Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset. Although the display specifications are expected to mirror the Xperia 1 VI’s 6.5-inch screen, the addition of a newer chipset could promise better performance, efficiency, and gaming capabilities, keeping Sony competitive in the premium segment.
Recap of Xperia 1 VI for Comparison
Xperia 1 VI, which hit the markets in May of 2024, boasted a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor, triple camera arrangement with a 48-megapixel main sensor, and a 5,000mAh battery with 30W fast charging. The device arrived at around EUR 1,299 (or Rs. 1,17,400). Given this as the reference point, expectations for the Xperia 1 VII are automatically high, even higher with the new processor and better design.
What to Expect from Sony’s New Flagship
Sony is going the conservative and incremental route with the Xperia 1 VII tweaking its design, improving its internals, and keeping inclusions such as the headphone jack. Official word is still pending, but it will be interesting to observe how Sony positions the Xperia 1 VII in competition to compete against stiff competition in the flagship space.
