Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7: Samsung has officially launched the Galaxy Z Fold 7 in India, and it’s not just a small upgrade over the previous Fold 6. It brings a bunch of important changes that make the foldable experience lighter, sharper, and more powerful. The launch also came alongside the Galaxy Z Flip 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE, but the Fold 7 is clearly the headliner when it comes to innovation and big changes.
Design & Style
Samsung has made some great improvements in the design of the new Galaxy Z Fold 7. The phone is now even more sleek and light. Compared to the Z Fold 6, the Z Fold 7 has a folded thickness of just 8.9mm and weighs just 215 grams, making it more comfortable to carry and keep in the pocket. The new Armor FlexHinge also makes the folding experience of the phone smoother and visibly reduces the crease of the inner display. The phone comes with premium materials like Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2 on the front and Gorilla Glass Victus 2 on the back, taking its durability level to the next level. But there is one problem, this phone does not support S Pen, as the digitizer layer has been removed to maintain a slim profile.
Display & Visuals
Samsung has also enhanced the display of Galaxy Z Fold 7 a lot. The cover screen is now 6.5-inch, which feels a bit bigger and more usable than before. The inner display is also now an 8-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X panel that gives an immersive visual experience. Both displays have a peak brightness of 2,600 nits, which does not reduce clarity even in direct sunlight. The aspect ratio of the cover screen is also a more practical 21:9, which is perfect for typing and daily phone usage. The new hinge also makes the crease in the inner display less noticeable, which is a visual and tactile improvement.
Performance & Processor
This time Samsung has used a powerhouse chip in the Z Fold 7 – Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy. This chipset is specially optimized for Galaxy devices and is more powerful than the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. This phone is ready for heavy multitasking, gaming, and AI tasks. RAM options have also been upgraded – for the first time in the Fold series, 16GB RAM option is available which comes with the 1TB variant. Other variants have standard support of 12GB RAM.
Camera Setup
The biggest surprise for camera lovers in the Z Fold 7 is its 200MP main camera. This could be the same sensor used in the S25 Ultra. It’s a significant upgrade over the Z Fold 6’s 50MP sensor, and will make a significant difference in image clarity, low light performance, and dynamic range. The inner selfie camera has also now moved from under-display to a standard 10MP hole-punch format, which should bring a noticeable improvement in clarity. The ultra-wide and telephoto lenses are mostly the same, but AI and processing improvements will make image quality better overall.
Features & Tech
The Galaxy Z Fold 7 runs Android 16 and One UI 8. It comes with new Galaxy AI features and deep integration of Google Gemini Live. Now you get real-time contextual help, smart content editing called Photo Assist and Generative Edit, and smart tools like “Gemini sees what you see”. Samsung has also given 6 months of Google AI Pro subscription for free. Talking about software support, Samsung has promised 7 years of OS and security updates, which makes it reliable for the long term.
Battery & Charging
There is no major change in the battery specs. This time too you get 4,400mAh battery with 25W fast charging. But due to the power efficiency of the new processor, the battery backup will be slightly better. Wireless and reverse wireless charging support is also provided. Yes, some people may find the charging speed a bit low, but Samsung performs quite well in stability and thermal control.
Price & Variants
Three variants of Galaxy Z Fold 7 have been launched in India. The 12GB RAM + 256GB storage variant is available for ₹1,74,999, the 12GB + 512GB variant for ₹1,86,999, and the top-end 16GB + 1TB variant is for ₹2,10,999. Pre-bookings have started from July 9, and general sales are expected from July 25.
Final Verdict
If you want a premium, future-ready foldable phone that has best-in-class everything from design to performance, display, camera and AI, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 could be your dream device. Its light design, big display, powerful processor and camera upgrades make it a flagship-worthy upgrade. But if you’re a fan of the S Pen, or a little budget-conscious, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 could still be a good option after the price-cut. The Z Fold 7 is definitely a bold and refined step towards the foldable future.
