Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge: Samsung officially launched the Galaxy S25 Edge in May. The smartphone is notable for its thin and light design and is better than the Plus model in the series in many ways, but does not offer as much performance as the Ultra model. It falls in the middle range in terms of price. Is this the right positioning, especially when the Plus model is also quite capable in its place? Let’s find out.

Design

The thinnest point of the Galaxy S25 Edge is just 5.8mm thick, which covers most of the phone’s frame. However, the thickness is more around the rear camera module. Due to this thin design, the camera is slightly protruding, which makes the phone shake when placed on a flat surface and affects the movement of the fingers when used horizontally. Still, the phone weighs only 168 grams, making it very light.

Durability

The frame of the phone is made of titanium, making it strong and durable, and there is no bend or flex felt during use. Corning Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2 and Victus 2 glass have been used on both the front and back, which is effective in protecting from scratches. Due to the IP68 rating, it is also protected from dust and water.

Display

It has a 6.7-inch QHD + AMOLED display, which comes with a 120Hz refresh rate. There are thin and symmetrical bezels around the display, making the phone look very premium. The screen is bright, colorful and responsive, but it does not have an anti-reflective coating like the Ultra model. Visibility in sunlight is fine, but the Ultra model offers better color production and contrast.

Audio

Despite the thin design, the phone has stereo speakers and Dolby Atmos support. But the sound quality is not as deep and rich as expected. Audio sounds a little weak for music, movies and gaming, while it is fine for voice calls and basic multimedia.

Camera

On the rear is a 200-megapixel primary sensor, which includes optical image stabilization, and a 12-megapixel ultra-wide angle sensor. The front camera is 12 megapixels. Camera performance is quite good, especially the detail and vibrant colors from the main sensor. Photos are a little soft in low light but color accuracy is good. There is no telephoto lens, but the 2x digital zoom delivers good quality. The ultra-wide camera works fine, but the detail is slightly reduced at the edges and there is a slight inconsistency in color. Macro shots and videos can also be taken with the “Samsung Focus Enhancer” mode.

In portrait mode, the camera is unable to separate the subject and the background properly, which also causes blur on the subject. The primary sensor gives better results in the default mode itself. Video recording also features 10-bit HDR support, UHD 4K 60fps and 8K 30fps.

Software and performance

The phone runs on Android 15, with Samsung’s One UI 7 user interface. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset makes the phone fast and smooth. But there is a slight impact on thermal performance, as the phone gets heated up during 4K video recording or heavy gaming, which can affect user comfort and performance.

Battery

The phone has a 3900mAh battery, which lasts a full day in average usage. But the battery drains quickly when doing heavy tasks and then a quick recharge is needed. There is 25W wired and 15W wireless charging support, which would be considered slow in today’s era as full charging takes more than an hour.

Verdict

The Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge is a slim and stylish flagship smartphone, which includes premium features and AI technology. But its price (starting at around Rs 1,09,999) is for those users who prioritize the thin and light body of the phone the most. If you want better balanced features and value, then other models in the Galaxy S25 series may prove to be a better option.
