Lava Yuva Star 2: Lava has launched its new budget smartphone in India, with a price that balances it between the price tag and the essential smartphone features for first-time users. The phone is straightforward in design and free from bloat, with a clean OS, making it best suited for those purchasing a smartphone for the first time or for a backup.

Lava Yuva Star 2 Price and Availability

Lava Yuva Star 2 is Rs 6,499 for the sole 4GB RAM and 64GB storage model. It comes in two color options — Radiant Black and Sparkling Ivory. The phone can now be bought via retail stores across India. The price is competitive and aligns with the launch price of the initial Lava Yuva Star back in August 2024.

Performance and Software

The Lava Yuva Star 2 is powered by an octa-core Unisoc chipset coupled with 4GB RAM and 64GB inbuilt storage. A further 4GB virtual RAM can be availed for effortless multitasking. But the 1.6GHz peak performance of the processor may be underwhelming during intensive usage. It ships with Android 14 Go Edition, though a more recent Android 15 Go would have provided longer support for software.

Camera

At the back, the phone features a 13MP AI dual camera module, and on the front, it has a 5MP selfie and video capture camera. This is a simple combination designed for everyday photography. Quality of the output picture is likely to be average in mixed lighting situations. The camera set-up has not improved from the previous one.

Battery Life and Charging

Lava has fitted the Yuva Star 2 with a 5,000mAh battery that is paired with a 10W charger. This combination should provide a day’s worth of use under normal conditions. The charging speed is reasonable but what is commonly found in this price segment.

Alternatives in the Market

If one is ready to spend a little over this price, models such as Xiaomi Redmi A5 and POCO C71 provide a superior processor and improved camera features. Both cost more than Rs 6,499 but deliver better performance. Vivo Y19e, at Rs 7,999, features a larger 5,500mAh battery and may find takers among those seeking greater power.
