Huawei Mate XT 2 specifications: Following the success of the world’s first commercial triple-screen foldable, Huawei is said to be gearing up for its next release, the Huawei Mate XT 2. Slated for release in the second half of 2025, the future device is likely to introduce some serious performance, camera, and user experience upgrades. The initial Mate XT Ultimate Design wowed the world, and all eyes are now on its successor.
Huawei to Continue the Tri-Fold Legacy
As per a leak posted by tipster Digital Chat Station on Weibo, Huawei is set to retain its triple-fold concept with the Mate XT 2. The new device reportedly shares the same display resolution as the previous one, the Mate XT Ultimate Design. Nevertheless, Huawei is anticipated to introduce improvements in screen quality, fold reliability, and overall design, making the futuristic phone even more desirable.
Kirin 9020 Chipset Could Power the Mate XT 2
While specifics are kept hidden, past rumors have hinted that the Huawei Mate XT 2 might be driven by the new Kirin 9020 chip. This would be a big jump from the Kirin 9010 chip that is currently seen on the existing Mate XT phone. The Kirin 9020 is said to provide improved efficiency, enhanced AI performance, and superior image processing, all important features for foldables with sophisticated camera modules.
Anticipated Camera and Hardware Enhancements
The tipster also suggests that Huawei will pay special attention to improved cameras in the Mate XT 2. While no formal information has been made public, it’s probably that the next device will have enhanced sensors and computational photography. Additional hardware enhancements are also anticipated, perhaps better battery life, quicker charging, and more streamlined hinge mechanisms, all necessary in a foldable design.
The Huawei Mate XT Ultimate Design Legacy
Released in September 2024 in China and launched internationally earlier this year, the Huawei Mate XT Ultimate Design was available for CNY 19,999 (approximately ₹2,35,900) in the 16GB + 256GB version. It had a tri-fold design with a 10.2-inch LTPO OLED display that folds once into a 7.9-inch shape and again into a small 6.4-inch phone-like shape. It comes with HarmonyOS 4.2 and has a 5,600mAh battery with 66W wired and 50W wireless charging support.
What to Expect Next
Even though Huawei has not announced the Mate XT 2, the release seems imminent based on the popularity of the initial model. If the Kirin 9020 chip and camera upgrades do find their way into the final release, the Mate XT 2 may change what a foldable flagship can do. Expect more leaks and official hints in the next several months as the launch approaches.
