EPFO: Big news for EPFO members. The Employees’ Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) has undergone another change in its rules. The revised rules set withdrawal limits for essential needs, housing expenses, and special conditions. These guidelines aim to clarify the number of times members can use their PF savings for various purposes.
The EPFO has put together helpful guidelines for advance withdrawals, organizing them into three main categories: essential needs, housing needs, and special conditions. Each category comes with different limits on how many advance withdrawal transactions a member can make.
10 Withdrawals for Education Members can make up to 10 withdrawals during their EPF membership to pay for education-related costs. This option covers education for both the member and their family members.
Under Category I, which focuses on essential needs, PF members can withdraw money for medical purposes, including treatment for illness, for themselves and their loved ones, with no set limit.
For wedding expenses, members are allowed a maximum of five withdrawals throughout their membership period. This benefit applies to the member and their family.
How many times can PF be withdrawn for housing purposes?
These include buying a house or flat, building a house, paying back a home loan, and fixing up or improving a residential property. According to the guidelines, members can make up to five withdrawals for housing-related needs during their EPF membership.
These options give members the chance to use their PF savings for major housing expenses, while keeping a cap on how often they can withdraw from this category. PF withdrawals under Category 3 can happen a maximum of twice per year.
When can 75% of the amount be withdrawn?
The EPFO has shared that an employee can withdraw 75% of their amount after 12 months of joining the EPFO, and this 75% can be taken out along with the interest earned. The EPFO offers this benefit to give employees financial help so they don’t run into any money troubles.
