Neha Kakkar Sparks Controversy With New Song – Social media sensation and Bollywood singer Neha Kakkar is currently in the news for her new song “Candy Shop,” but this time, the reason isn’t praise, but heavy trolling. The song has only been released a few days ago, and it’s already sparked controversy. Famous folk singer Malini Awasthi has taken a stand against the song, directly questioning the credibility of Sony TV.
What’s the whole matter?
As soon as Neha Kakkar’s song “Candy Shop” was released, people began criticizing its choreography and “strange” lyrics. The controversy escalated further when Malini Awasthi retweeted a post from a page called “Movie Review.”
The movie review post read:
“When your shine starts to fade, you resort to such forced hooksteps and cringe-worthy lyrics. The song’s styling feels like a cheap version of K-Pop. It’s all so shameful and ugly.”
Malini Awasthi’s scathing attack: “Sony TV, give an answer”
Malini Awasthi not only criticized the song but also questioned Neha Kakkar’s status as a judge on Indian Idol. She wrote in her tweet: “Sony TV should answer why Neha Kakkar has been a judge on Indian Idol for so many years? You give opportunities to innocent talent on your channel, and a reality show judge is a role model for those children. This ‘stupid’ act by Neha Kakkar is absolutely unacceptable.”
Public anger on social media
Fans have been divided on Neha’s new avatar, but anger is more visible. Some of the comments are as follows:
One user wrote: “Anything is being served in the name of art. Such vulgarity was not expected from a respected singer like Neha.” “The girl who once sang at jagratas has now become such a mess due to competition.” The song was released around December 15th and has received over 2 million views as of this writing.
Reason for Controversy: People are not liking Neha’s bold style and copying Western K-pop styles in the song. Malini has always been a proponent of the dignity of Indian culture and music, so she considered this to be “against culture.”
Our View
Experimentation in music is a good thing, but when it comes to a national judge, audiences expect a little more decorum and grace. Is this song by Neha Kakkar truly ‘creative freedom’ or just a way to stay in the limelight? Share your thoughts in the comments.
