Exam overview

CTET 2026 is conducted in offline mode using OMR sheets. The exam is held in two shifts on different days. Paper 1 is for candidates who want to teach classes 1 to 5, while Paper 2 is for candidates aiming to teach classes 6 to 8. Candidates appearing for both papers must carefully follow the rules given by the board.

Important exam day instructions

Candidates must reach the exam centre well before the reporting time mentioned on the admit card. The rules state that any tardiness to the exam will result in immediate disqualification from all testing activities. The exam authorities check documents and identity before allowing entry into the exam hall.

Only blue or black ballpoint pens are allowed for marking answers. Candidates must bring their own pen because the exam centre will not provide any stationery items. Using the wrong pen can lead to cancellation of the OMR sheet.

Pencil and OMR rules

Pencil use is strictly not allowed in the CTET exam. Candidates must not use pencil to make any marks on the OMR sheet. Candidates who use pencil marks will face rejection of their OMR sheet which will result in their answers being marked as unscored.

The OMR sheet requires answers to be marked in a manner which allows for clear identification of the response. The circles require complete filling with the prohibition of both overwriting and rough marking. Candidates should not fold tear or damage the OMR sheet in any way.

• Books, notes, papers, or any written material
• Bags, wallets, food items, or electronic gadgets

Documents required

The CTET admit card must be taken by candidates together with a photo ID document which proves their identity. The documents must be present for entry to the premises. The admit card needs verification of its details which must be performed before the examination date.
