CBSE completely changed pattern . The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has decided to make major changes to the school education system and examination pattern under the New Education Policy (NEP 2020). The focus of examinations will no longer be on memorization, but on the ability to understand, think, and apply. This change will particularly impact primary (grades 3, 5, 8) and middle to secondary (grades 6 to 10) students.

For students who have been scoring marks solely through rote learning, the board has released a special update that you should be aware of.

No longer fear exams
CBSE says that exams will no longer be the last step that scares children, but will become an essential part of the learning process. Under the new system, the board is launching an online assessment platform to assess students’ understanding of the subject matter and whether they are able to apply that knowledge in real life.
This initiative aims to equip students with essential 21st-century skills such as reasoning, analysis, and problem-solving.
New Assessment for Classes 3, 5, and 8 – SAFAL
Under CBSE’s new plan, a special assessment test, called SAFAL (Structured Assessment for Analyzing Learning), will now be conducted in classes 3, 5, and 8.
The purpose of this test is to test students’ basic understanding, logical thinking, and analytical abilities. The SAFAL results will help schools understand which subjects or topics students need additional support in.

Special Emphasis on These Subjects
Under the new policy, CBSE has clarified that subjects like science, mathematics, and English will now be given greater importance.
The board believes that these subjects enhance children’s ability to understand, experiment, and innovate. To this end, the Competency-Based Assessment Framework has been implemented for grades 6 to 10.
In this system, children will be asked questions that require thoughtful answers, not memorized answers, to evaluate their actual understanding.
What will change for students?
- This new pattern will help children break the habit of rote learning.
- Teachers will now focus more on project-based and concept-driven teaching.
- This will also be reflected in report cards-now, students’ learning abilities and progress reports will be more important than marks.
Experts believe that this change will bring India’s education system closer to global standards and boost students’ confidence.
