When will the exam be held?
According to the schedule released by the National Testing Agency, the UGC NET December 2025 exam will be held between December 31, 2025, and January 7, 2026. This time, the exam will be conducted in a total of 85 subjects. The exam will be conducted in online (CBT) mode at various centres across the country.
Who can apply?
To apply for UGC NET, candidates must have a Master’s degree from a recognised university.
General category candidates must have at least 55% marks.
For OBC, SC, ST, and PwD candidates, 50% marks are sufficient. Candidates currently in the final year of their Master’s degree can also apply, provided they meet the eligibility criteria by the time the results are declared.

Qualification and Passing Marks
The UGC NET exam consists of two papers: Paper 1 (General Knowledge and Teaching Ability) and Paper 2 (Subject-Specific).
The minimum marks required to pass the exam are as follows:
- General Category: 40%
- Reserved Category (OBC, SC, ST, PwD): 35%
The merit list is prepared based on the total marks of both papers, and candidates included in the NTA list are considered NET qualified.
