Ramal Cyclone Storm: India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned that Cyclone ‘Remal’ is expected to form over East Central Bay of Bengal by the morning of May 25.
The low-pressure area over the southwest and adjoining West Central Bay of Bengal moved towards the northeast and was situated over West Central and adjoining South Bay of Bengal on Thursday morning.
Thereafter, it will move almost northwards and approach Bangladesh and adjoining West Bengal coasts as a severe cyclonic storm by the evening of May 26, with winds reaching 100 to 120 mph, the IMD said on Thursday.
Big warning for Bengal
The Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert in Kolkata given the danger of stormy winds and lightning. There is also a possibility of heavy rain throughout the week.

The cyclonic circulation forming over the Bay of Bengal may further impact the city, storms and heavy rains have been predicted, and residents have been urged to exercise caution.
Impact in Maharashtra and Gujarat
The Meteorological Department said that apart from Odisha, it is also likely to affect Maharashtra and Gujarat by May 27. Therefore, the Meteorological Department has issued a forecast of heavy rain in Gujarat and Mumbai around May 28, 2024.

Heavy rain warning
Light to moderate rainfall at many places and heavy rainfall at isolated places are very likely over North and South 24 Parganas, East Medinipur districts of West Bengal, and Balasore district of Odisha on May 25 and 26.
Along with this, there is a possibility of light to moderate rainfall at many places in Mizoram, Tripura, and South Manipur and heavy rainfall at isolated places.
warning to fishermen
The Meteorological Department has advised fishermen not to venture into the central and adjacent South Bay of Bengal from May 24 and the North Bay of Bengal from May 25 to May 26. Fishermen who had gone to sea have also been advised to return to the coast before May 25.
