Kolkata High Court: The Kolkata High Court has cancelled all the OBC certificates issued after 2010, after which Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s conspiracies to include Muslims in the ‘Other Backward Classes’ have received a deep blow.

The TMC supremo has expressed deep displeasure over this order given on Wednesday (May 22, 2024). Let us tell you that in 2010, many groups of Muslims were put in the OBC category. In 2010, the leftist party CPI(M) was in power in the state and Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee was the Chief Minister.

The High Court clearly said that reservation was given to some groups of Muslims for political purposes, which is an insult to democracy. The High Court said that this work was done in a hurry to fulfill the election promise, for this unconstitutional method was adopted as soon as power was gained.

The High Court did not interfere in the 66 castes which were added before 2010. The High Court accepted that those who belonged to the backward class did not get the certificate.

The court declared the addition of 42 categories to OBC from March 5, 2010, to May 11, 2012, as illegal. In this way, all the certificates issued between 2010-2024 were cancelled.

Let us tell you that Upendra Nath Biswas, a former IPS officer who investigated the fodder scam in Bihar, was the Backward Class Welfare Minister in the first government of Mamata Banerjee. He was the Joint Director of CBI during the investigation of fodder scam.

Now after the order of the High Court, a new list of OBC will be prepared and presented in the Assembly. Now the TMC government has the option to file a review petition in the High Court or challenge this decision in the Supreme Court.

Voting for the sixth phase of Lok Sabha elections 2024 is to be held on June 25. This decision has come just before that. It is being told that the OBC status of a total of 77 Muslim castes has been cancelled, out of which 42 were added by the CPI(M) and 35 by the TMC government.
