During UPI transactions, a 4 or 6-digit PIN must be entered. Without it, the transaction cannot be completed. This is mandatory to ensure that even if someone else gets hold of your phone, they cannot make a transaction. The UPI PIN is set through a debit card. Experts recommend that people who use UPI regularly should change their PIN at regular intervals to reduce the chances of fraud.

Earlier, the UPI PIN could not be changed or set without a debit card. However, the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has now introduced the option to set a UPI PIN using an Aadhaar card. As a result, users can now change their UPI PIN without needing a debit card.

This system has been introduced to allow more customers to benefit from the UPI payment system. However, to use this feature, the phone number must be linked to both the Aadhaar card and the bank account.

Once this is done, the user can set the UPI PIN using the Aadhaar card. In simple terms, the same mobile number must be linked to both the bank and the Aadhaar card. Only then can the UPI PIN be set or changed without a debit card. Here’s how you can do it, step by step:

Steps to Set UPI PIN Using Aadhaar Card:

1. Open the UPI App:

The customer must first go to the UPI app and add the details of their bank account.

2. Select UPI PIN Setting:

Then, select the option to set a UPI PIN for the bank account.

3. Choose the Method to Set UPI PIN:

Two options will appear: one is to use a debit card, and the other is to use Aadhaar OTP.

4. Select Aadhaar OTP Option:

Choose the option to set the UPI PIN using Aadhaar OTP.

5. Provide Permission and Aadhaar Details:

Grant permission and enter the first six digits of the Aadhaar number. Then, verify and confirm the details.

6. Enter OTP Sent to Bank Registered Number:

After this, an OTP (one-time password) will be sent to the registered mobile number linked with the bank. Enter the OTP and click on the verify option.

7. Set the New UPI PIN:

Once the OTP is verified, you’ll be able to set a new UPI PIN. After entering the new PIN, submit it to complete the process.

By following these simple steps, you can set or change your UPI PIN using the Aadhaar OTP method without needing a debit card.
