If a wrong ID has been linked to your PF account, don’t worry. EPFO has issued a circular that explains how you can remove that wrong ID from your PF account while sitting at home.

As you know, a part of the salary of people working in private companies goes into the PF account. This amount is received as a pension after retirement. Every employee gets a Universal Account Number (UAN) from EPFO.

The problem happens when an employee has more than one UAN or someone else’s ID gets linked to their UAN. To solve this issue, EPFO has shared a step-by-step guide in a circular. It explains how to remove the wrong ID from your UAN. However, to use this process, your Aadhaar must be linked to your PAN card.

How to Remove Someone Else’s ID

  • Go to EPFO’s portal: https://unifiedportalmem.epfindia.gov.in/memberinterface/
  • Log in using your UAN and password.
  • In the menu, click on Service History.
  • You will see the IDs linked to your UAN.
  • Find the wrong ID and click on the De-link option next to it.
  • A confirmation message will appear. Click OK.
  • Write the reason why you want to de-link this ID.
  • You will get an OTP on your registered mobile number. Enter the OTP and click Verify.
  • Once verified, the wrong ID will be removed from your UAN.

EPFO’s Advice: Keep Only One UAN

EPFO has clearly said that every PF member should have only one UAN. If you have more than one, you should merge them into one UAN. This will help you avoid problems in the future.
