A couple of years ago, in 2023, the Modi government launched the Mahila Samman Savings Certificate scheme for women. The main aim of this scheme is to encourage women to save. The best part is that any woman can invest in it. This scheme started on April 1, 2023. Under this scheme, women can make fixed deposits (FDs) ranging from ₹1,000 to ₹2,00,000. To invest in this scheme, one must visit the post office.
Mahila Samman Savings Certificate: A Great Opportunity for Women to Save
The Mahila Samman Savings Certificate scheme offers women an interest rate of 7.5%. This scheme allows women to invest for 2 years, from April 1, 2023, to March 31, 2025. To open an account, women will need their Aadhaar card, PAN card, and two photographs. Additionally, they must have a post office account to participate in this scheme.
Encouraging Women to Save
Rajesh Kumar Binwal, Superintendent of Almora Post Office in Uttarakhand, explained that this scheme is aimed at respecting and encouraging women to save. Although the scheme runs for two years, it provides a great opportunity for women to invest and earn a 7.5% interest rate on their deposits. Women can invest amounts ranging from ₹1,000 to ₹2,00,000.
Still Time to Invest
Rajesh Kumar Binwal also mentioned that women who have not yet invested still have time to take advantage of this scheme. There is still some time left before the last date, March 31, 2025.
Success So Far
In the Almora district, under this scheme, 6,078 women have already opened accounts. A total of ₹43 crore 14 lakh 7,000 has been deposited by women customers.
