Assam Government Makes a Historic Move

On the occasion of the New Year, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma took a significant step by announcing the formation of the 8th State Pay Commission. With this decision, Assam has become the first state in the country to formally initiate the process of the 8th Pay Commission at the state level. This announcement is being seen as a major relief for state employees and officers.

Activity Intensifies in Madhya Pradesh

Following Assam’s initiative, activity regarding the 8th Pay Commission has also increased in Madhya Pradesh. The state employees’ union has become active on this issue and is preparing to assess the potential benefits. Discussions are common among employees about how much their salaries and allowances might increase once the new pay scale is implemented.

Preparation to Calculate Detailed Benefits

Officials of the state employees’ union say that the economic benefits of the 8th pay scale will be studied in detail. For this, advice will be sought from financial experts, and the current salary structure of employees in various cadres will be analyzed. The union aims to present its demands to the government with solid data and facts.

Comparison with Previous Pay Scales

Under the union’s plan, a comparative study of the pay scales of the Sixth and Seventh Pay Commissions will be conducted. Based on this, an assessment will be made of how much different categories of employees and officers can benefit from the new pay commission. A detailed blueprint of potential changes in salary, grade pay, and allowances will be prepared.

Memorandum to be Submitted to the Government

The conclusions drawn after discussions with experts and employees will be compiled and submitted to the state government in the form of a memorandum. A delegation from the state employees’ union will meet with officials from the Chief Minister’s office, as well as the General Administration Department and the Finance Department, to present their demands.

Central Government has already taken the initiative

It is noteworthy that the central government had announced the formation of the 8th Central Pay Commission on November 3, 2025.  The commission, headed by retired judge Ranjana Desai, has been directed to submit its report within 18 months. Following this initiative by the central government, expectations for salary revisions have also intensified in the states.
