Vande Bharat 4.0 Update: Major decisions are being made in India regarding the Vande Bharat train, which are quite significant. Indian Railways is now on the verge of a historic transformation. The future Vande Bharat 4.0 trains are being designed for speeds of 350 km per hour, which will place India among the countries with the world’s fastest rail systems.
According to Indian Railways, this development reflects India’s growing commitment to the next generation of high-speed rail travel. This train is also being specifically designed for dedicated high-speed corridors, such as the Ahmedabad route. The government launched the first semi-high-speed trainset in February 2019. Safety features were enhanced in September 2022, and improvements in energy efficiency and passenger amenities were made in 2025.

Sleeper Variant to be Launched Soon
The Indian government is set to launch the Vande Bharat sleeper variant in 2026. This train is designed for long-distance travel and will operate at high speeds even at night. The fourth version of this train is also scheduled to be launched in 2027. The maximum speed of this train is expected to be up to 350 kilometres per hour.
The government has set a target of 4500 Vande Bharat trains across the country by 2047. Vande Bharat 4.0 is not just about speed; it will also adopt the world’s best safety standards. Kavach 5.0 is India’s indigenous automatic train protection system.

It prevents train collisions and automatically applies the brakes if a signal is jumped. It will also control overspeeding. This technology also generates energy during braking, which is sent back to the grid, resulting in significant electricity savings.
