Vande Bharat Sleeper Train’s Look: The first glimpse of the Vande Bharat Sleeper Train has been revealed, attracting attention for its high-tech and elegant design. This train will offer speed, high-tech amenities, and comfortable travel for long-distance travelers.
This train is considered a significant step towards modernizing Indian Railways’ long-distance network. The Vande Bharat Express has been successful as a daytime semi-high-speed train, bridging the gap between the Shatabdi and Rajdhani services. However, there was a growing need for sleeper arrangements for overnight journeys of 700 to 1,200 kilometers or more. To address this, Indian Railways announced the launch of the Vande Bharat Sleeper train, which will make long journeys more convenient.
According to reports, the prototype will have 16 coaches: 11 AC 3-tier, 4 AC 2-tier, and 1 AC First Class coach. This will accommodate approximately 1,128 passengers, with seating and sleeping accommodation, including 823 berths for passengers and 34 for onboard staff.
What will be the facilities?
Each coach of this train is fully air-conditioned, with wide bunk beds, comfortable staircases, modern interiors, and advanced safety features. Features include dedicated toilets for disabled passengers, automatic inter-coach doors, Wi-Fi, USB charging ports, sensor-based lighting, and digital information panels.
The train will also be equipped with India’s indigenous Kavach collision-avoidance system. Its design is based on the same aerodynamic EMU platform as the existing Vande Bharat trains. Its maximum speed will be 180 km/h and service speed will be 160 km/h.
This train will initially connect Delhi with major cities like Ahmedabad, Bhopal, and Patna, significantly reducing travel time over a distance of approximately 1,000 kilometers. According to the Railway Minister, the Vande Bharat Sleeper Train will officially launch by mid-October 2025. If successful, this train will set a new standard for luxury rail travel in India.
