UPI Transaction: Many times, when UPI users try to send large amounts of money, the transaction fails. This leads people to assume there’s a problem with the app. In reality, this is due to UPI’s fixed limits, which all users should be aware of. UPI transaction limits are set by the NPCI. A user can transfer a maximum of Rs 1 lakh per day. This limit applies to most banks and UPI apps and is the standard rule for general users.
This limit applies to both person-to-person (P2P) and person-to-merchant (P2M) transactions. Whether you’re sending money to a friend or making a payment at a store, the total amount cannot exceed Rs 100,000. Some banks also have limits on the number of transactions. For example, if you have an account with SBI, you can make a maximum of 20 P2P transactions per day. However, there is generally no limit on the number of P2M transactions.
In certain cases, UPI also allows for larger amounts of money to be transferred. For tax payments, IPO applications, RBI Retail Direct Scheme payments, or payments to verified hospitals and educational institutions, you can send up to Rs 1 lakh to Rs 5 lakh per day. UPI Lite is a feature designed for small payments. A maximum of Rs 1,000 can be transacted at a time. Up to Rs 4,000 can be added to the wallet in a day, and a maximum of Rs 5,000 can be held at any given time
