UPI Wrong Payment: When making a UPI payment, individuals frequently make the error of sending money to the incorrect number. In our rush to complete transactions, we often overlook the details of where and to whom we are transferring funds. Consequently, after the transaction is completed and the intended recipient does not receive the money, we realize that we have sent the payment to the wrong number.
If you find yourself in this situation, there’s no need to panic. According to RBI guidelines, if you make a UPI payment to the wrong number, you should promptly file a complaint by calling the NPCI toll-free number. This action enhances your chances of recovering your funds.
Report any wrong transaction to NPCI
UPI payments can often be sent to the wrong number due to rushing. In these instances, it’s important not to panic. Instead, you should report the issue immediately to facilitate the return of your money. Once a UPI PIN is entered, the transaction cannot be reversed. If you mistakenly send money to someone, reach out to the recipient and ask for a refund. If that doesn’t resolve the issue, you can file a complaint with NPCI.
Call on this toll free number
To file your complaint, you can call the NPCI toll-free number at 1800-120-1740. Alternatively, you can visit your bank branch and submit a written complaint by completing the necessary form. Keep the transaction number safe
As per the guidelines from the Reserve Bank of India, if an online payment is accidentally sent to another person’s account, the bank is obligated to investigate the complaint and process the refund within 48 hours. Be cautious if you receive a message indicating a money deduction after making a payment via UPI or net banking. This message will include the transaction/PPBL number, which is essential for filing your complaint.
