PM Surya Ghar Scheme- If you use AC-fridge, fan-cooler and lights more in the summer season and then get upset seeing the electricity bill, then a government scheme can solve your problem. Yes, we are talking about the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojna launched last year by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, which has become very popular due to its benefits and till now solar panels have been installed on the roofs of more than 10 lakh houses under it. Under this scheme, the government has set a target of solar panels on 1 crore houses by the year 2027. In this, along with 300 units of free electricity, subsidy is also given by the government.

One year and 10 lakh users

Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Yojana was launched by PM Narendra Modi on 15 February last year and enthusiasm was seen across the country from the very beginning. This can be gauged from the fact that according to government data, in just one year, by March 10, 2025, the number of solar panel installations on the roofs of houses under PM Surya Ghar had crossed 10.09 lakh and it is increasing. Not only this, if we look at the information shared by the Union Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) recently, this government scheme has achieved an annual saving of Rs 1600 crore and now the target is to achieve a total saving of Rs 5 lakh crore with 1 crore installations by 2027.

Scheme to get rid of costly electricity bills

If you are troubled by the hefty electricity bills, then under this Govt Scheme, you can get rid of it for the next two decades by investing money just once. Actually, usually the life of a solar panel is estimated to be around 25 years. However, before applying under this, i.e. if you want to get a solar panel installed on the roof of your house under PM Surya Ghar Yojna, then before that it is necessary to estimate in advance how much your daily electricity consumption is.

Understand this as an example, if any household runs 2-3 fans, a fridge, 6-8 LED lights, AC and appliances like TV, then you may need about 8 or 10 units of electricity every day. In such a situation, you can get a solar panel of 2 kW capacity installed on the roof of your house. Accordingly, you can select the solar panel according to the consumption of your house. If we look at the data of the ministry, then through these solar panels, an average saving of Rs 12000 per year is being done per household and this scheme is proving to be helpful in reducing the electricity bill.

Under the PM Surya Ghar Yojana, where one gets free electricity up to 300 units, the government also gives a huge subsidy on installing solar panels under it. The government gives a subsidy of Rs 30,000 per kilowatt up to 2 kilowatts, Rs 48,000 per kilowatt up to 3 kilowatts and Rs 78,000 for more than 3 kilowatts.
