PAN Card Rule Change: Big news for PAN Card holders. Did you know that after March 31, obtaining a PAN card with just your Aadhaar card will no longer be possible? Starting April 1, you will need to provide both your Aadhaar and a document that verifies your date of birth to get a PAN card. CSCeGov has shared this information through a post on X. They have indicated that from April 1, the previous application forms for PAN card issuance will no longer be accepted. Therefore, it’s advisable to apply for your PAN card before March 31 for a smoother process. Currently, you only need your Aadhaar card to apply for a new PAN card.

Beginning April 1, you will also need to present a document that confirms your date of birth to acquire a PAN card. However, if you manage to get your PAN card by March 31, your Aadhaar card alone will suffice. So, take advantage of this opportunity to obtain your PAN card more easily for now.
How can you apply for a PAN card?
- To apply for a PAN card online, start by visiting the official NSDL website.
- Next, click on the ‘Apply Online’ tab and choose New PAN – Indian Citizen (Form 49A).
- Make sure to select Individual in the category section.
- Now, fill in your personal information such as surname, first name, date of birth, email ID, and mobile number.
- After that, enter the captcha code and submit your application.
- You will receive a token number, so be sure to write it down.
- This token number is important in case your form is incomplete for any reason.
- Next, complete the OTP verification using your Aadhaar card, which means you won’t need to upload a separate photo or signature.
- Then, provide your father’s name, address, and other details.
- If you choose the e-KYC option, your Aadhaar address will be automatically captured.
- After that, pay the PAN card fee online.
- Once the payment is made, proceed with Aadhaar authentication.
- You will receive an OTP on your mobile number linked to your Aadhaar.
- After entering the OTP, your application will be submitted.
According to a CSCeGov post on X starting April 1st, a birth certificate, voter ID card, 10th-grade marksheet or certificate, driving license, affidavit certified by a magistrate, passport, etc. will be required to obtain a PAN card. This means that Aadhaar card alone will no longer be available as is currently the case.
