No need to apply for old-age pension

The Uttar Pradesh government has taken a historic decision to significantly simplify the lives of senior citizens. The monthly financial assistance (monthly pension) received by destitute senior citizens over the age of 60 is now being linked to their Family ID. This proposal was approved in a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.

This unique initiative means that seniors will no longer need to fill out any applications or forms to receive their pension. This decision brings significant relief to millions of senior citizens who previously had to spend months running around government offices to get their pensions started.

Automatic Pension Disbursement

This new system will be fully automated and a significant step towards transparency. Previously, senior citizens had to apply and deal with significant paperwork, but this will no longer be the case. Under automatic disbursement, pensions will automatically commence upon reaching 60 years of age, based on the age recorded in the Family ID.

Cabinet Minister Surat Garg stated that upon reaching 60 years of age, pensions will automatically commence based on the records recorded in the Family ID. The pension will be transferred directly to the bank account through DBT (Direct Benefit Transfer), requiring zero paperwork. This process will make pension disbursement faster, more transparent, and reliable, eliminating delays and complexities in disbursement.

₹1,000 monthly assistance

Currently, destitute elderly people in the state receive a pension of ₹1,000 per month based on an application. With the implementation of this new system, this entire application system will be eliminated, and the entire process will be fully automated. The state government will spend an additional ₹990 crore to implement this major reform. The clear goal of this reform is to ensure timely financial assistance to millions of elderly people.

This remarkable reform will not only save time but also provide significant relief to elderly people who previously faced difficulties with paperwork and running around government offices. This step sets a strong example for good governance and social security in Uttar Pradesh. Now, the lives of senior citizens will become truly easier.
