UP Government Announces New Dearness Allowance Rates for Workers, A Diwali Gift

New Delhi: Before Diwali, the Yogi government has once again made an announcement that is being discussed from villages to cities. This time, the Yogi government has given a major gift to the working class. The government has decided to approve new rates of dearness allowance for lakhs of workers employed in 74 scheduled employments covered under the Minimum Wages Act, 1948.

The increased rates announced by the Yogi government will be effective for a period of six months, starting October 1, 2025. On Monday, the UP Labour Commissioner issued this order, providing significant relief to workers. This has caused considerable joy among the working class. This decision from the government is being considered a gift before Diwali.

Deputy Labour Commissioner Shaktisen Maurya informed that the new rates of variable dearness allowance announced have been determined based on the All India Consumer Index. In any case, this allowance will be payable based on an average of 414 points from January 2025 to June 2025, over and above the average of 216 points from July 2012 to December 2012.

Based on this calculation, a variable dearness allowance of ₹5,271 has been determined for unskilled workers on a total wage of ₹5,750 per month. Shaktisen Maurya further stated that the daily rate will not be less than 1/26th of the total monthly wage.

Wage rates for workers employed in the brick kiln industry have also been determined. Most importantly, the wages for workers employed in this industry are ₹700 per thousand, for those working in brick kilns up to 500 meters, ₹211 per thousand, and for those working in the brick kiln industry, ₹211 per thousand.

What did the Deputy Labour Commissioner say?

Gorakhpur’s Deputy Labour Commissioner Shaktisen Maurya has also provided startling information. He stated that the new rates of variable dearness allowance will be effective for six months, starting October 1st.

Workers who do not renew their contracts after October 15th will be included in the inactive list. An awareness camp is also being held at labourabor base on September 30th. Workers are also urged to visit their nearest centres in large numbers to renew their contracts.
