Toy Train Safari: Local tourism in Siliguri, West Bengal, is making a comeback. The once-closed toy train Jungle Safari is back in action, now with a fresh twist. This unique ride, which travels from Siliguri to Gayabari, lets tourists enjoy the beauty of the hills and forests for just 500 rupees.
The Toy Train Jungle Safari had been shut down for several reasons. You no longer have to head to Darjeeling for those stunning mountain views. The Darjeeling Himalayan Railway (DHR) has brought this service back to life, aiming to enhance local tourism and create jobs. This safari was in operation from 2007 to 2009 but was halted for various reasons.

Now, the DHR has teamed up with a private company to revive the project. Officials believe this will significantly boost tourism in the Siliguri region and provide job opportunities for the local community.
Three coaches, each with different amenities
The jungle safari features three coaches. Two of these will be managed by a private company, offering extra services like security guards, train hostesses, breakfast, tiffin, and lunch. The third coach will be a budget option, run by the IRCTC, costing Rs 500. Passengers can expect breathtaking views of the lush forests and hills along the way, making for a memorable experience.

On another note, the ongoing violence and chaos in Bangladesh have instilled fear among truck drivers at the India-Bangladesh border. Bangladeshi truck drivers at the Fulbari border in Siliguri are voicing their worries. “The situation in Bangladesh is dire. There’s violence, looting, and deadly attacks everywhere. When night falls, the threat from robbers on the roads increases. Even truck drivers aren’t safe,” shared Ravi Mia Mohammad, a truck driver from Dhaka.
