Tomato Price– Tomato is once again ready to bite your pocket. The price of tomato which was being sold at Rs. 20 per kg till last month has suddenly increased. In Delhi NCR and many cities of North India, tomato is being sold at Rs. 50 per kg.
The price of tomatoes has reached 40 rupees per kg in wholesale and there is a possibility of further increase in its prices in the coming time. Ashok Kaushik, a tomato trader of Azadpur Mandi in Delhi, told Jagran Business that the price of tomatoes has increased in the last one week. The price of tomatoes in wholesale has reached 30 rupees per kg. The price of the new consignment of tomatoes from Bengaluru is expected to be around 40 rupees.
Why did tomato prices increase?
Kaushik said that till last month, a lot of tomatoes were coming from Rajasthan and Haryana, but they were not getting much price. Due to which the farmers stopped selling tomatoes. Now tomatoes are coming only from Himachal Pradesh, Karnal in Haryana and some districts of UP. Apart from this, supply is coming from Karnataka.
Apart from this, due to the increase in heat in June, tomatoes are getting spoiled quickly. This is also affecting the supply of tomatoes and the prices are increasing.
When will tomato prices decrease?
Kaushik said that there is no hope of reduction in the price of tomatoes at present. Tomato is one of the vegetables that perishes quickly. Right now the crops are getting spoiled due to the heat. Soon the rains will start, which will also spoil the tomatoes. Therefore, there is no hope of getting relief in the price of tomatoes for a month or two.
