In a recent statement, the High Commissioner indicated that these visas have been granted to a group of 154 pilgrims who will undertake their pilgrimage to the revered Katas Raj temples located in the Chakwal district from February 24 to March 2, 2025.
A significant agreement was established between India and Pakistan in 1974
The High Commissioner extended his best wishes, expressing hope that the pilgrims’ spiritual journey will be both successful and enjoyable. It is important to note that a significant agreement was established between India and Pakistan in 1974, which allows Pakistan to issue visas to thousands of Hindu and Sikh pilgrims from India annually for visits to various religious sites. The Shri Katas Raj Mandir is situated in the Potohar plateau of Punjab province in Pakistan.
According to the Puranas, this temple is said to be adjacent to a pond, which is associated with a well-known legend. It is believed that when Lord Shiva wandered the earth in sorrow following the death of his wife Sati, a pond was created from his tears, and the Shri Katas Raj Mandir was subsequently constructed near this pond.
Additionally, Indian Sikhs frequently visit Kartarpur in Pakistan, where a visa is not required. An agreement concerning the Kartarpur Corridor was also established between India and Pakistan, facilitating the annual pilgrimage of hundreds of Sikhs to Pakistan.
