Another big news for vehicle owners. The Delhi government is set to prohibit the fueling of diesel vehicles older than 10 years and petrol vehicles older than 15 years starting April 1. To enforce this, 80% of the petrol stations in the city have been equipped with devices that will detect vehicles lacking deregistration and pollution control certificates. If any violations occur, the staff at the pumps will deny fuel to those vehicles.

Utilizing technology to identify older vehicles-

The Delhi government has installed Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras at petrol stations. These cameras will assist in identifying older vehicles that do not possess a valid pollution control certificate. If a vehicle is found to be in violation of these regulations, the system will alert the staff, who will then refuse to provide fuel.

Enforcement against older vehicles-

As per the directives of the National Green Tribunal, diesel vehicles that are 10 years old and petrol vehicles that are 15 years old will be automatically deregistered. If these vehicles are spotted on public roads, the transport department will seize them. Additionally, the Delhi government has introduced a policy aimed at encouraging vehicle owners to scrap their older vehicles.

Incentives for scrapping vehicles-

The Delhi government has also launched an incentive program for the scrapping of older vehicles. Vehicles that are impounded will only be released if their owners agree to keep them on private property or register them in different states.
