The end of the year is the season of festivals and joy. Many people will travel during this time. Some will spend time with their families. If you suddenly have a plan to travel, then Tatkal tickets are the only option for train travel. However, there have been several changes in the Tatkal ticket rules recently. If you are not aware of this rule, then you may miss the train or not get the ticket at all. Do you know what this rule is?
New rules have been introduced for Tatkal ticket booking from December 1. Now Tatkal tickets cannot be booked without OTP. Earlier, tickets could be booked only by logging in to the IRCTC website at the specified time for Tatkal ticket booking. Now the OTP rule has been added to it.
As per the Railway Board guidelines, Tatkal tickets can be obtained only after verifying the OTP verification on your mobile. This OTP will be sent to the mobile number you provided at the time of booking. The ticket will not be generated until this code is entered into the system.

This rule is not limited to the IRCTC website or mobile app. The same rule will also apply to ticket counters at railway stations. Earlier, tickets were booked immediately after payment. But now the process has become more secure and regulated. If you give the wrong OTP or cannot tell the OTP received on the registered number, then the ticket will not be available.

The main objective of this new OTP system is to stop brokers. For a long time, there were complaints that seats were filled within a few seconds of opening instant booking. Brokers use illegal automated software, due to which brokers could book multiple tickets at once. Now, the OTP will be sent directly to the passenger’s mobile phone. This will increase transparency in booking. Those who want to travel will have a better chance of getting tickets.
From October 28, 2025, the Railways has implemented another new rule. If you want to book a ticket between 8 am and 10 am, then linking Aadhaar with your IRCTC account is mandatory.
