ATM- Big news for bank account holders. State Bank of India, Punjab National Bank and many other banks said on Friday that their ATMs are fully operational, they have sufficient cash and digital services are running smoothly. The banks also said that all their digital services are running smoothly. Banks have advised customers not to trust unverified information.

The statement was issued in the backdrop of reports on social media claiming that ATMs may shut down in the coming days amid rising tensions between India and Pakistan. Indian banks have denied this claim and said that all our ATMs are working smoothly.

India’s largest bank, State Bank of India, wrote on social media platform ‘X’, “All our ATMs, CDM/ADWM and digital services are fully operational and available to the public.”

Do not believe the rumours

India’s largest lender has also advised its customers not to trust unverified information. Bank of Baroda, Punjab & Sind Bank, Canara Bank and Bank of India also issued similar messages. “All our digital services are also running smoothly, ensuring you a seamless banking experience from your home,” Punjab National Bank wrote on social media platform ‘X’. Meanwhile, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will hold a review meeting on cyber security preparedness of banks and financial institutions in the evening.

SBI has also alerted customers by posting on its official social media handle X. The bank said that all our ATMs, CDMs/ADWMs and digital services are operational and open to the public. What is in the viral message?

Many people are getting a message on WhatsApp and other social media platforms, which says, “Important information! ATM services will be closed for the next 2-3 days. Please withdraw cash as per your requirement in advance.” People are believing such messages, especially when many kinds of rumours are already going around.

PIB has clarified that:

  • The claim of ATM being closed is completely fake.
  • No decision has been taken by the government or any bank to stop ATM services.
  • All ATMs are functioning normally and will continue to do so.
