If you have an SBI credit card, this news is very important for you. There is some good news, but customers may also get a surprise. According to the notification from the State Bank of India, reward points will be removed from some cards starting September 1. At the same time, the Card Protection Plan (CPP) will be introduced in a new way for customers.
From September 1, 2025, reward points will not be available on some online transactions on selected credit cards. A new Card Protection Plan (CPP) will start from September 16, 2025. Under this plan, cardholders will have 3 options instead of 4.
This is not the first time SBI Cards has changed its rules. Many changes were made in July and August 2025. At that time, the bank removed the free air accident insurance on some premium cards like SBI Elite and SBI Prime.
Reward Points Will Not Be Available on These Cards
From September 1, 2025, SBI Cards will not give reward points on some transactions for selected cards. This applies to digital gaming platforms, merchants, and government services. The rule will be for Lifestyle Home Centre SBI Card, Lifestyle Home Centre SBI Card SELECT, and Lifestyle Home Centre SBI Card PRIME. This means if you use these cards for online games, in-app purchases, game top-ups, or government services, you will not get reward points as before.
Card Protection Plan (CPP) Will Change
SBI is also changing the Card Protection Plan (CPP) for its cardholders. From September 16, 2025, all CPP cardholders will automatically move to the updated plan when their card is renewed. The bank will notify you by SMS or email 24 hours before the renewal date. Now, there will be 3 plans instead of 4. The cost will be between Rs 999 to Rs 1,999, depending on the plan and benefits.
What is Card Protection Plan?
CPP is a service that protects your credit card if it is lost or stolen. You can block the card by calling the bank. It also helps protect your important documents like driving license or passport. CPP protects against fraud, including PIN fraud, phishing, tele-phishing, or transactions without OTP if your card is lost or stolen. The coverage can be up to Rs 3 lakh, depending on your plan. The three new CPP variants are:
- Classic Plan – Rs 999 (Primary Member cover)
- Premium Plan – Rs 1,499 (2 members: primary + spouse)
- Platinum Plan – Rs 1,999 (4 members: primary + spouse + parents)
