Toll Tax: Travelers utilizing highways and expressways in India will soon find themselves facing higher expenses. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has announced an increase in toll fees effective April 1. This marks the second toll hike within a year, following the previous adjustment in June 2024. The updated rates will impact both commuters and commercial operators on key routes, including the Lucknow Highway, Delhi-Meerut Expressway, Eastern Peripheral Expressway, Patna-Bakhtiyarpur Highway, NH-9, and Delhi-Jaipur Highway.

On highways traversing Lucknow, such as Lucknow-Kanpur, Ayodhya, Rae Bareli, and Barabanki, light vehicles like cars will see an increase of Rs 5 to 10 per trip, while heavy vehicles will incur a rise of Rs 20 to 25. The toll tax will also be adjusted on these routes. For example, the one-way toll for cars and jeeps traveling from Sarai Kale Khan to Meerut will rise from Rs 165 to Rs 170. Light commercial vehicles and buses will now be charged Rs 275, while trucks will face a fee of Rs 580 per trip.

New rates

At the Chhijarsi toll plaza on NH-9, the toll for cars will increase from Rs 170 to Rs 175, with light commercial vehicles now paying Rs 280, and buses and trucks facing a toll of Rs 590. Additionally, the new rates indicate a three percent increase at Didarganj Toll Plaza on the Patna-Bakhtiyarpur Highway. Under these adjustments, light vehicles will be charged Rs 140 instead of Rs 135, Rs 210 instead of Rs 200 for a 24-hour pass, and Rs 4615 instead of Rs 4455 for a monthly pass. Similarly, light commercial vehicles will incur fees of Rs 210, Rs 315 for 24 hours, and Rs 7040 for a monthly pass. Truck and bus drivers will now pay Rs 425, Rs 635 for 24 hours, and Rs 14115 for a monthly pass.

According to the official notification of NHAI, the highest increase will be on goods carrying vehicles having more than seven axles, which will lead to a hike of Rs 590 in toll. Apart from this, the toll from Ghaziabad to Meerut will increase from Rs 70 to Rs 75.
