UPI New Rule 2025: There is news of relief for those who pay from UPI. Now understand so much that no one will be able to fraud with you. This is because now before making payment, you will see his real name, which you are sending money. Till now only Alias or Nickname was seen, due to which confusion was often created. But now the same name will be seen, which will be verified by the bank, meaning real name.
National Payments Corporation of India
The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has implemented a new rule, which will be effective from 30 June 2025. Under this, now UPI apps will have to show bank-verified names before confirming payment. This step has been taken to increase transparency, reduce fraud and assure users of safe digital transactions.
What is the whole change and why this was done?
According to the NPCI’s 24 April 2025 directive, now both P2P (Person-to-Person) and P2PM (Person-to-Crachant) will be seen only on the payment confirmation screen by the bank in transaction. In the first UPI apps, the names taken from the QR code, user-defined Alias (surname), saved contacts or nicknames were shown. This was convenient, but it used to scope for mistakes and fraud. The fraudsters often mislead the users by copying the names. Now this problem will end by appearing CBS-based name.
What is ultimat benefits
According to NPCI, ultimat benifisory is the person or institution who is receiving money in lieu of goods or services. Since CBS data is controlled by banks and retrieved through Secure APIs, it cannot be replaced by users or apps. This will provide an accurate, verified identity to the payment, which will reduce the risk of wrong transaction.
Will the way to pay?
Not at all. Users will still be able to start payment through UPI ID, phone number or QR code. But the name seen on the final confirmation step will change. Now the bank-applied name will be seen instead of any Alias or Saved contact.
Will curb on fraud, will user confidence increase?
In its report, the Times of India quoted Rahul Jain of NTT DATA Payment Services, “Scams often used to fool users by keeping names like brands. Now it will be difficult to do so with CBS verification.” Experts believe that this will prevent fraud from fake names to a great extent. Apart from this, this improvement will also increase user confidence. Before the payment, the users will be able to verify the receiver by seeing the correct benefits, which will reduce the risk of accidents.
