50,000 Cards Cancelled
In addition, those who own four-wheelers, are in government jobs, or whose income is above the prescribed limit have already been declared ineligible. All such cardholders will not receive ration distribution benefits from February. Under this process, approximately 50,000 ration cards have been cancelled in the state so far. A large number of these belong to people who were taking advantage of government rations despite having high incomes.
The government is taking this step to make the ration distribution system more transparent. Under the new rules, e-KYC has been made mandatory. Ration cards where Aadhaar verification of all members is not completed by January 31st will be considered invalid after February 1st.

Government Addresses Ration Consumers’ Concerns
However, a large number of e-KYC verifications are still pending in remote and hilly areas. Considering this, the Food and Supply Department has issued instructions to complete the process in a timely manner. According to the department’s Additional Commissioner, PS Pangti, a special campaign is being conducted for e-KYC so that no eligible cardholder faces any difficulty. Discussions are also underway at the government level to extend the campaign’s deadline if needed.
The good news is that a plan is also being worked on to provide pulses and salt along with wheat and rice to ration cardholders in the coming days. This will provide additional relief to eligible families.
