Railway Rules- After making Aadhaar mandatory from July 1 and OTP mandatory from July 15 for booking tickets from Tatkal quota, now the Railways has also made a big change in the tickets booked from general quota. Now only a limited number of waiting list tickets can be booked in all classes from sleeper to AC.

This system has been implemented from the station from where the train departs to the intermediate stations. Waiting list tickets will be issued only 25 percent more than the normal quota of the train at the station. As soon as 25 percent more waiting list tickets are issued, there will be no room. Railways has made this change in view of the problems caused by boarding of passengers with waiting list tickets in excess of capacity in reserved categories.

A letter related to this was issued to all the zonal railways by Railway Board’s Executive Director Passenger Marketing Shivendra Shukla. The change has also become effective from Monday. This new system of railways will provide great relief to millions of passengers across the country. If any train originating or passing through Dhanbad has 20 general quota seats in sleeper, 10 in third AC and 8 in second AC, then after booking 20 seats of general quota in sleeper, only 5-6 tickets will be issued in the waiting list.

In third AC, after 10 seats in general quota, only three to four tickets will be issued and in second AC, only two to three waiting list tickets will be issued. No room started appearing in most trains including Rajdhani, Duronto
As soon as the limit for waiting list tickets was fixed, no room started appearing in most trains. Regret i.e. no room started appearing as soon as 25 percent waiting list tickets were issued after the general quota in sleeper and AC class of Ganga-Sutlej, Dhanbad-Alleppey Express running from Dhanbad as well as Kolkata-Jammutvi Express, Doon Express and other long distance trains passing through here.

There is no room situation in Howrah-New Delhi Rajdhani, Sealdah-New Delhi Rajdhani till the whole of June and in Duronto Express also on different days. This system will be applicable for Tatkal tickets as well The provision of booking 25 percent more tickets than the prescribed quota will also be applicable on tickets booked from Tatkal quota. This will not be applicable for concessional tickets and warrants. This will be effective at road side stations as well as small stations.
