Post Office: There’s good news for rail passengers struggling to secure train tickets during festivals like Diwali and Chhath Puja. Booking train tickets now requires neither standing in long lines nor traveling to the station. The Indian Postal Department, in collaboration with the Ministry of Railways, has launched a new facility that allows people to book train tickets directly from their nearest post office.
This initiative aims to provide easy ticket booking access to people living in villages, towns, and remote areas, especially those without railway stations or reservation counters. This new system is considered a significant step toward managing the rush of passengers during festivals and facilitating travel in rural areas.
The Indian Postal Department, in collaboration with the Ministry of Railways, has launched ticket booking services at 333 post offices across the country. Most of these post offices are located in rural and semi-urban areas, making this service easily accessible to people in remote areas. These post offices have been installed with PRS terminals, through which railway tickets are booked. Under this new system, passengers can book tickets for all classes, including sleeper, AC, general, etc. This initiative will prove to be a major relief for travelers, who will no longer need to travel to cities or railway counters to book tickets.
How to book train tickets from the post office?
Passengers don’t need to go to the station to book railway tickets. If there’s a post office with a PRS terminal in your area, you can book tickets there. Passengers should first find out which post office in their area is affiliated with PRS, as this facility is only available at select post offices. When booking tickets from the post office, passengers will be asked for travel details, such as the route, date, train name or number, and class.
