PMAY-U 2.0: Do you want to build or buy your own house in the city, but the budget is getting in the way? Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban), i.e., PMAY-U, can remove this worry of yours! Launched on 25 June 2015, this ambitious scheme aims to provide pucca houses to the urban poor and middle-class people at affordable rates.
The second phase (PMAY-U 2.0) of this visionary scheme of the Central Government has been launched in the budget of 2024, under which 1 crore families will be able to get their own house in the next 5 years. This scheme is playing a very important role in providing pucca houses to the poor section of the country. Let us understand every information in detail, from the benefits of this scheme to the application process.
What are the benefits of PMAY-U
Under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban), the government helps the beneficiaries in many ways so that everyone’s dream of having their own house can be fulfilled:
Direct assistance up to ₹ 2.5 lakh
If you have your land and want to build a house on it, the government gives you direct financial assistance of up to ₹ 2.5 lakh to build a house. This is a boon for those who have land but no money to build a house.
Interest subsidy (CLSS)
Under the Credit Linked Subsidy Scheme (CLSS), you can get a subsidy of up to ₹ 2.67 lakh on home loan interest. This means that the monthly installment (EMI) of your home loan will be significantly reduced, making buying a house even more affordable.
Affordable houses and low rent
Those who do not have their land are provided with houses built by the government at very affordable rates. Apart from this, government-built houses are also given on very low rent, which provides shelter to homeless people.
Who can avail of the benefits of the scheme?
Some income groups and residence-related conditions have been fixed to avail the benefits of this scheme. This scheme is mainly for those families of EWS (economically weaker section), LIG (low income group), and MIG (middle income group) who do not have any permanent house anywhere in the country.
