PM Kisan Yojana: Millions of farmers nationwide are eagerly anticipating the next payment of the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana. With the 21st installment now credited to their accounts, all attention is focused on the upcoming 22nd installment. This initiative not only assists with agricultural costs but also offers financial aid to farmers. Yet, amidst this excitement, a significant question looms for those farmers who do not possess land but work tirelessly in others’ fields. Will sharecroppers or farmers who rent land also gain from this ambitious government program?

Will Samman Nidhi be credited to sharecroppers?

A substantial segment of rural India comprises farmers who lack their own agricultural land. They cultivate land owned by others to make a living. This practice is known as sharecropping, where the farmer gives a portion of the harvest to the landowner and retains the remainder for personal use. These farmers put in all the effort, yet the land is not registered under their name.

This is why, as discussions about the 22nd installment of PM Kisan commenced, confusion began to arise: was there any alteration in the rules this time? Would sharecroppers also be eligible for financial assistance? According to the regulations, the answer is a definitive “no.” The PM Kisan Samman Nidhi is designed so that its benefits are accessible only to those whose agricultural land is recorded in the revenue documents. This implies that if you are farming land but your name does not appear in the land records, you will not qualify for this scheme.

Currently, various news articles are circulating on social media suggesting that the government is easing the rules. However, farmers must realize that the foundation of the PM Kisan Yojana is land ownership. When the scheme was first introduced, it was restricted to small and marginal farmers. Subsequently, the government broadened the criteria to include farmers with all types of land holdings, but the stipulation that the land must be in your name still stands. As a result, regardless of how hard you work on another farmer’s land, sadly, according to the existing regulations, you won’t qualify for the 22nd installment.

Now, let’s tackle the question that every eligible farmer is eager to know: when will the funds be available? Recent updates suggest that the 22nd installment may take a bit longer to arrive. This delay is attributed to the upcoming Union Budget, which is set to be unveiled on February 1, 2026.

It seems that the government will likely disburse the next Samman Nidhi payment only after the budget session concludes. This installment will mark the final payment for the current financial year, as the new financial year commences in April. Therefore, farmers are encouraged to patiently await the official announcement and ensure their e-KYC and land verification are completed in the meantime, so that the funds can be transferred directly to their bank accounts without any delays as soon as the installment is made available.
