Adarsh P January 28, 2026

PAN Card Update: Today, a PAN card is a very important document. From filing income tax returns to opening a bank account, getting a job, investing, and creating an account on brokerage apps, a PAN card is required everywhere. Almost all money-related transactions are considered incomplete without a PAN card.

Therefore, if the name, address, date of birth, or mobile number recorded on the PAN card is incorrect, many important tasks can get stuck. Inaccurate information can also lead to income tax-related problems. For this reason, the government has provided an online facility for making corrections and changes to the PAN card.

Official facility for PAN card changes

The Income Tax Department has provided two official websites for making changes to the PAN card. These include NSDL and UTIITSL. Through these two platforms, any PAN card holder can update their PAN card information from the comfort of their home.

How to update name, address, and date of birth

To correct your PAN card, you first need to visit the official website of NSDL or UTIITSL. There, you will have to select the option related to Changes or Corrections in PAN. After that, you will have to fill in basic information such as PAN number, name, date of birth, and email.

After filling in the information, a 15-digit token number will be issued by the system. The further process is completed based on this. After this, you will have to select the information that needs to be corrected and enter the correct details. Then, you will have to upload the necessary documents such as identity proof, address proof, date of birth proof, and a photograph. Finally, you will have to pay the prescribed fee and submit the form.

After submitting the form, you will receive an acknowledgment slip, which is important to download and keep safe. With the help of this slip, the status of the PAN card update can be checked later.

Strict punishment for fake Aadhaar and PAN cards

Both Aadhaar and PAN cards are very sensitive documents. If a person creates a fake Aadhaar card, according to UIDAI rules, they can face imprisonment of up to three years and a fine of up to ten thousand rupees.

Similarly, there are provisions for strict action against those who create or use fake PAN cards. According to media reports, this can result in a fine of up to ten thousand rupees and a jail sentence of up to six months. Since all information related to PAN cards is with the Income Tax Department, the use of fake documents is strictly monitored.

Why linking Aadhaar and PAN is necessary

It is also mandatory to link both Aadhaar and PAN cards. This can be done free of charge within the deadline set by the government. If the linking is not done on time, the PAN card may become inactive, and there may be difficulties in tax-related matters.
