PAN-Aadhaar Link Deadline: The deadline for linking your PAN and Aadhaar is only six days away now. If you don’t link your PAN with Aadhaar by December 31st and pay the late fee, your PAN card will stop working. According to income tax regulations, having an inactive PAN card can affect various financial and tax-related services.

Before you link your PAN and Aadhaar, you need to pay a penalty of Rs 1,000 on the Income Tax e-filing portal. But if you got your PAN using your Aadhaar enrolment ID after October 1, 2024, you can link them for free until December 31, 2025. This info comes from the tax platform ClearTax.

What issues could arise?

If your PAN becomes inactive, it could disrupt your tax filing, banking, investments, and other financial services. The goal of linking PAN and Aadhaar is to enhance identity verification and stop duplicate PANs from being issued. It’s crucial for all taxpayers in the country to make sure their PAN and Aadhaar are linked. To do this, taxpayers should log into the Income Tax e-filing portal, navigate to ‘My Profile’, and choose the ‘Link Aadhaar’ option. Then, they need to enter their PAN and Aadhaar numbers and complete the payment through e-Pay Tax. Once the payment is done, you can link your PAN and Aadhaar on the portal.

How to check the status?

Taxpayers can also verify their PAN–Aadhaar link status by going to the Income Tax e-filing portal. By entering their PAN and Aadhaar numbers, they can see the linking status on the screen. If they aren’t linked, an alert will pop up on the portal. If the name, date of birth, or other details in the PAN and Aadhaar don’t match, you can correct your Aadhaar on the UIDAI portal and your PAN on the Protean (NSDL) or UTIITSL website. If needed, you can also make corrections through biometric verification at the nearest authorized PAN Seva Kendra.
