PAN 2.0 Update: The Indian government has introduced a new version of the PAN card, PAN 2.0, to make it more secure. This new version is designed with robust security features to prevent fraud and problems associated with fake PAN cards. PAN 2.0 includes a laser-printed QR code, which stores all information such as name, date of birth, PAN number, and photo in encrypted form. This makes it virtually impossible to counterfeit the PAN card and ensures instant verification anywhere. If you are still using your old PAN, updating it will be beneficial, and the fee is only ₹50.

Online Upgrade Facility

The biggest advantage of PAN 2.0 is that updating it requires neither standing in line at a government office nor visiting a centre. The entire process can be easily completed from home. The government has assigned the responsibility of issuing new PAN cards to two agencies: Protean (formerly NSDL e-Governance) and UTIITSL. The agency responsible for handling your PAN is listed on the back of your old PAN card. Based on that information, you must apply to the correct website.

Process to convert a PAN issued by NSDL to PAN 2.0

First, the applicant must open the online PAN service portal. Clicking on the “Reprint of PAN Card” option on the website opens a new page where you must enter your PAN number, Aadhaar number, and date of birth. You must then receive an OTP on your registered mobile number or email address. After verifying the OTP, you must pay a fee of ₹50. The process begins upon submission. The PAN 2.0 is delivered to your address within approximately 15 to 20 days, and a soft copy can be downloaded within 24 hours.

How to Update a PAN Card from UTIITSL

Those with a PAN issued by UTIITSL must visit the UTIITSL website and select the Reprint PAN Card option. After entering the PAN number, Aadhaar number, and date of birth, the process is similar to that of NSDL. After OTP verification, the fee is paid, and the PAN 2.0 is delivered to your home.
