There is great news for the farmers of the country. The central government has taken another important step to help farmers get better prices for their crops and promote digital agriculture. Now, a total of 238 agricultural products have been listed on the e-NAM (e-National Agriculture Market) portal. About 7 new agricultural products will now be included, so that farmers can directly benefit from selling these crops online.
Union Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has approved the addition of these 7 new products to the e-NAM platform. These include Jardalu mango, Shahi litchi, sugarcane, Marcha rice, Katarni rice, Magahi paan, and Banarasi paan. This move will be especially helpful for farmers in states like Bihar and Uttar Pradesh, where these crops are widely grown.
Scope of Trade in Agriculture Will Increase
Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said that the main aim of this step is to expand the digital reach of agricultural products. This will help both farmers and traders to easily use a transparent, convenient, and profitable online trading platform. With this, farmers will not only get fair prices for their crops in the market, but the role of middlemen will also reduce greatly.
Changes Made to 4 Existing Products
The Ministry of Agriculture has changed the tradable standards of four products already listed on the e-NAM portal. These four products are – water chestnut flour, water chestnut, baby corn, and dragon fruit. These changes were made after getting feedback from farmers, traders, and experts from different states.
Farmers Will Get Direct Benefits
These new and updated standards will help farmers get better prices based on the quality of their crops. It will also make the trading process more transparent. As a result, farmers’ income is expected to rise, and the agriculture sector will grow further.
New Features Coming to eNAM Portal Soon
According to reports, these new tradable standards will soon be updated on the eNAM.gov.in portal. This will make selling these products online easier. This is another strong step towards making farmers self-reliant and moving Indian agriculture forward under the Digital India mission.
