New UPI Rules from 1 August 2025 : UPI has now turned out to be the cherry on top for digital payment service in India. Millions of people use it day in and day out to send money, transfer money, and pay bills. But come August 1, 2025, there will be certain significant changes in UPI, which is also important for everyone to know. The National Payments Corporation of India, which heralds changes in characteristics about UPI, introduces these changes to make UPI a very secure, swift, easier, and better means to transact.
Limit on daily balance check and account view
Now every UPI app can only perform 50 balance checks in a day from its profile. Aside from that, a person can only see the linked bank accounts for 25 times in a given day. The purpose of these changes is to lessen the load in the system and keep running everything seamlessly through the applications. Automatic balance will be visible after every successful transaction.
Autopay during Non-peak hours

If you have set up autopay from UPI for things like OTT subscription, loan EMI or SIP, then all of these transactions henceforth will be done only during non-peak hours. Now, these transactions will henceforth be set to happen pre-10 am, 1 pm-5 pm, or last but not least after 9:30 pm. Some reports also talk about a timeline from midnight to 7 am.
A limit even on pending transaction status checks
In case your UPI payment has gone pending, you can now check the status of such payments only 3 times. You should wait at least 90 seconds between every check. However, apps also need to make sure that they convey the final status of the payment quickly within their system so that the consumer does not have to wait for their transaction completion.
Name of the receiver before sending payment
Starting now, whenever you are about to send money to someone, the registered name of the receiver will appear on your screen for you to confirm. This will prevent the mistake of sending money to the wrong person and thus minimize chances of fraud.

Closure of UPI associated with a non-active mobile number
Chances are that your UPI ID will be deactivated if it is associated with a number used quite long ago. This rule was made so that if it is reassigned to someone else, he/she should not be allowed to misuse the UPI.
New UPI rules will kick in on the first day of August 2025. The underlying motive behind these rules is strengthening the whole system so that millions of most common users do not face any obstacles while using UPI. If you are a UPI user, currently is the time to know these rules, as you could then upgrade your app or settings in time to avoid any hitch later.
