Do you also need to get a PAN card for your child below 18 years of age? If you are thinking of opening a bank account in the name of the child, then the child’s PAN card can be very useful for you. The Income Tax Department has started an e-campaign on 8 May 2025, in which the importance of a PAN card has been explained.
In this campaign, it is being specially informed that it may be necessary to get a PAN card for children below 18 years of age. Especially when opening a bank account in their name or making investments. This rule applies to both children living in India and NRI children living abroad. So, if you also have a small child in your house, then this information is important for you.

Can children apply for a PAN card
Yes, children can apply for a PAN card. However, they cannot apply for it on their own. Their parents or guardians have to apply as ‘representative assessors’. Children’s PAN cards do not have their photo or signature. When the child turns 18, he or she has to get a new PAN card with his or her photo and signature, but the PAN number remains the same. So, even if the child’s PAN card is made through the parents, it will prove to be very helpful in their financial matters in the future.
