This facility will not be available to everyone. The government has provided subsidy on LPG only for limited beneficiaries. The rest of the users will have to buy cooking gas at market price. Recently, Oil Secretary Pankaj Jain made this comment to clear doubts about subsidy on LPG cylinders.
What is the government saying about subsidy?
Regarding cooking gas subsidy, Jain said, “No subsidy is given on cooking gas from June 2020. However, the subsidy announced by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in March is still valid.”

LPG Subsidy Update: Who will get LPG subsidy?
LPG subsidy on cooking gas is given only to 9 crore poor women and other beneficiaries. Those who got free gas connections under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana get LPG subsidy. There was no subsidy for LPG users from the first day of Covid. This subsidy is still available only for Ujjwala beneficiaries. At least that is what the Union Oil Secretary has said.

What did the Finance Minister say about the subsidy?
Recently, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman tweeted while announcing the subsidy decision. In which she said, “We will give a subsidy of Rs 200 per gas cylinder (up to 12 cylinders) to 9 crore beneficiaries of Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana. This will help our mothers and sisters. This will cost about Rs 6,100 crore per year.”
About Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana
The government provides LPG for hassle-free cooking for rural and deprived families. Otherwise, it was difficult for the poor to use cooking fuels like coal and cow dung. With this aim, this scheme was launched in May 2016. The government provided the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana after seeing that the use of traditional cooking fuels earlier was having a detrimental effect on the health of rural women as well as the environment. According to the PMUY website, the government has provided more than 9.17 crore LPG connections under this scheme. Where there are about 30.5 crore LPG connections in the country.

Who will get this benefit?
The people eligible for LPG connection under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana scheme include SC families, adult women of ST families, people of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Rural), Most Backward Classes, Antodaya Nana Yojana (AAY), Tea and former Tea Garden Tribes, Forest Dwellers, People living in Islands and River Islands, SECC families (AHL TIN), Poor families as per the 14-point declaration. However, to get the benefit of this scheme, the applicant must be 18 years of age. If there is any other LPG connection in the same family, the citizen will not get that benefit.
How much subsidy will you get?
After the latest government decision, the government provides a subsidy of Rs 200 per cylinder to the beneficiaries of Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana. This money is directly deposited in their bank accounts. Under this scheme, the price of a 14.2-kg cylinder for them is Rs 803.
