LPG KYC: The government has released a significant announcement for the millions of domestic LPG (cooking gas) users in India. The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has urged all domestic LPG customers to finish the e-KYC (electronic KYC) process as soon as they can. As per the government, this procedure is carried out through biometric Aadhaar authentication and aims to ensure that gas connections are utilized solely by legitimate consumers.
This advisory from the government comes at a time when there have been rising concerns regarding the availability of LPG cylinders in certain regions. Increasing geopolitical tensions in the Middle East have affected global energy supplies. In light of this situation, the government seeks to enhance the transparency and efficiency of the gas distribution system so that end-users can continue to receive gas without any difficulties.
How can one complete the e-KYC process?
The Petroleum Ministry has made it clear that the e-KYC process is entirely free and simple to complete. Consumers can accomplish it from the comfort of their homes using their smartphones in just a few minutes. According to the ministry, this process verifies the identities of consumers and ensures that accurate gas connection information is recorded.
To complete the e-KYC, consumers must first download the mobile app of their gas company. Domestic LPG in India is mainly provided by state-owned oil marketing companies like Indane Gas, Bharat Gas, and HP Gas. After downloading the appropriate app, consumers can log in and choose the e-KYC option.
Next, consumers need to carry out Aadhaar-related verification. This involves downloading the Aadhaar FaceRD app, which enables verification through facial authentication. By following the instructions in the app, users can complete the biometric verification and successfully finish the e-KYC process.
Why is it necessary to do e-KYC?
The government says this move will make the gas distribution system more transparent. Domestic gas cylinders are often misused through fake or duplicate connections, and e-KYC is considered essential to prevent this. Aadhaar-based verification makes it easier to identify such cases and ensures that subsidy benefits reach only genuine consumers.
Additionally, e-KYC helps the government ensure that gas subsidy funds reach the correct individuals’ bank accounts. In India, LPG subsidies are transferred directly to bank accounts, so ensuring accurate consumer identification and up-to-date data is crucial. Experts believe that this digital verification process increases both transparency and efficiency in government schemes.
The government has appealed to all LPG consumers to complete their e-KYC process promptly. This will help avoid future issues with gas cylinder booking, delivery, or subsidy. The ministry states that the purpose of this process is not to inconvenience consumers but to strengthen and strengthen the gas supply system, ensuring uninterrupted availability of cooking gas in homes across the country.
