The Central Government is running many schemes to increase the participation of women in the development of the country and empower them at the economic level. For the last few years, women’s empowerment has been given an unprecedented boost by the Central Government, and this is the reason why the government comes up with different schemes for women.

In this article, the Central Government launched ‘Lakhpati Didi Yojana’ for women in the year 2023. The main objective of this scheme is to promote women in the field of industry. The government believes that they should be provided financial assistance to set up industries so that they can become self-reliant and contribute to the country’s economy.

Interest-free loans up to ₹5 lakh

Through this scheme, the government provides interest-free loans up to ₹5 lakh to women. This is a revolutionary initiative, as interest-free loan helps women to start and grow their businesses without any major financial burden. For this, women have to fulfill some prescribed conditions.

Lakhpati Didi Yojana is a big effort of the government towards women empowerment. This scheme has been run especially for women associated with Self Help Groups (SHGs). Through this scheme, women are helped to increase their income. Also, women are encouraged for self-employment, so that they can improve not only their own but also their family’s financial condition.

From skill development to business establishment

Under the Skill Development Program, women will be given training in various industries, such as sewing, food processing, handicrafts, digital literacy, etc. After training, they will be given an interest-free loan of ₹ 1 lakh to ₹ 5 lakh to start their own business. Under this scheme, the government aims to connect 3 crore women with the Lakhpati Didi scheme. This is an ambitious target that will also boost the rural economy.

What are the eligibility criteria

To apply for the Lakhpati Didi scheme, some eligibility criteria have been set for women which they have to fulfill.

The most important condition in this scheme is that if a woman applies under this scheme, then no member of her family should be in a government job. If this happens, then such women will not be able to take advantage of this scheme.

Along with this, only those women can apply under this scheme whose annual family income is ₹3 lakh or less. Women with an annual income of more than three lakh rupees will not be eligible for this scheme.

The applicant woman must be a member of a registered self-help group.

How to apply for the scheme

To apply for Lakhpati Didi Yojana, women have to tell their business plan under the Self-Help Group. This business plan should be clear and feasible.

Women will prepare their business plan in collaboration with their self-help group, which will include which industry they want to work in, how much investment is needed, and how to earn profit.

After the business plan is ready, the self-help group will send that plan to the concerned government department.
