ITR Filing 2025: If you are going to file ITR for the first time, the first step is to register yourself on the e-filing portal of the Income Tax Department. This portal provides many important tax-related services to taxpayers online, such as filing returns, checking refund status, getting tax credit information and completing other important tax-related tasks from home.
It is possible to use the e-filing portal of the Income Tax Department only if you register there once. Without registration, you can neither file ITR nor claim refund. This registration is completely free and is linked to your PAN card. Let us know how we can do this process easily…
How to register?
Step 1: First of all go to the Income Tax e-filing portal and click on the ‘Register’ button on the homepage.
Step 2: Select ‘Taxpayer’ option and enter your PAN number, then click on ‘Validate’.
Step 3: If PAN is valid, fill in the basic details like your name, DOB, gender and residency status on the next screen.
Step 4: Next, fill in the contact details like mobile number, email ID and address.
Step 5: Two separate OTPs will be sent to the entered mobile number and email. Enter both the OTPs correctly and proceed.
Step 6: If any information is incorrect then correct it and confirm.
Step 7: Now set the password and type a security message which will appear on every login.
Step 8: As soon as you click on the ‘Register’ button, your registration will be completed and after that you can login.
Facilities available from e-filing portal
Once registered, taxpayers can avail several online services like filing income tax returns or checking refund status etc. With the help of the portal, reports like Form 26AS and AIS can also be downloaded. Keep in mind that you should have a valid PAN, mobile number and email ID available while registering
