It is taking double the time to file the ITR
According to the information, Mumbai-based chartered accountant Chirag Chauhan wrote on X that people are not able to access ITR forms, and the department should publicly inform about when the problems will be fixed. He said that more details are being sought in the new ITR forms than before. For example, to claim HRA, it has now become necessary to fill in the landlord’s PAN and property address. At the same time, it has now been made mandatory to provide a policy number for tax exemption on insurance. Due to these changes, it is taking almost twice the time to prepare tax returns as compared to earlier.
Demand for an increasing deadline
CA Himan Singla has demanded from the government that not only the deadline for ITR filing, but also the deadline for tax audit, company law audit / ROC filing, and GST annual return should be increased. He wrote, Increase the deadline of ITR. Along with this, increase the deadline of tax audit and also extend the dates of ROC and GST. Along with this, these dates should also be announced in advance so that there is no panic at the last moment.
What is the current deadline?
For information, let us tell you that the last date for filing ITR for non-audit taxpayers is 15 September 2025. But experts believe that this time is very short, because many important utilities have been released recently or are not available yet. Let us tell you that the date of utility of ITR-5 has become 9 August. Along with this, the date of online utility of ITR-6 and ITR-7 has not been released yet. At the same time, GCCI has also appealed to extend the deadline.
The Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry has written a letter to the CBDT demanding extension of the time for both ITR and tax audit. He says that the utilities have been released late, due to which taxpayers have very little time left to file returns. However, the government had already extended the deadline for non-audit taxpayers from July 31 to September 15, but experts say that this relief was very ineffective as the necessary forms were not available on time.
