Big news for Aadhaar Card holders. If you haven’t updated your Aadhaar in the last decade, it’s time to head to the nearest Aadhaar center and get it sorted. If you don’t, your Aadhaar card could be canceled, and then you might have to make a trip to the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) headquarters in Delhi to fix things.

UIDAI checks Aadhaar cards every eight to ten years, and if yours hasn’t been updated in a while, it could be marked as inactive and potentially canceled. This system is in place to help keep track of active Aadhaar cards.

Once your Aadhaar card is canceled, you’ll need to go to the UIDAI headquarters in Delhi to resolve the issue at their help desk, since Aadhaar centers can’t reactivate canceled cards.

Also, don’t forget that you need to upload a photo ID proof. According to Operation Manager Digvijay Chaudhary, most cardholders don’t need to change their name or address, so they don’t have to update their identity. To ensure that everyone is still alive, UIDAI requires everyone to upload a photo ID every 8 to 10 years. You can use a PAN card, voter ID, passport, or driving license as your photo proof.

Make sure to keep your biometric and iris info up to date.

Digvijay Chaudhary points out that seniors’ fingerprints can change over time. This often leads to issues with biometric verification for many cardholders. The most common problems arise with ration cards and attendance checks. To avoid these hassles, it’s recommended that Aadhar cardholders update their finger, iris, and facial biometrics every ten years.
